Periphery/LocationThis piece is the second part of the trilogy about my family. I used family photographes and postcards to explore the notions of what “native” and “foreigner” mean in the context of the ownership with regards to land, body and family. The installation featured a looped video of the Atlantic Ocean taken near the El Mina the port where thousands of Africans were enslaved and sent to the Americas, a white suit that was fabricated to resemble what my grandmother were on her journey to South Africa in 1933, a video of images (see below to watch) and images of over looking a body of water. |
